Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall

Chiawei Lin was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1988. He started playing the guitar when he was four years old, initially having lessons from his father. Later, he studied with two highly respected guitarists in Taiwan: Professor Panpei Huang and Showlee Huang.
Since 2009 he has been studying with Hubert Käppel at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy.
Why choose Koblenz? Chiawei explained: ‘I heard that the level of the guitar is really high and that I could receive the best education there.’
What are three important things that he has learned from Hubert Käppel about playing music and playing the guitar? ‘First, sing the music and feel it. Second, change the strings very often, especially before the concert or the competition. Third, make the audience pay attention to the performer, not only by using the music but also through body language.’

The Koblenz International Guitar Academy was established in 2007 as an all-year-round Academy of the Koblenz International Guitar Festival dedicated to the development and further education of young guitarists. The Academy works in collaboration with the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, the Musikschule der Stadt Koblenz and the Koblenz International Guitar Society e.V.. There have been around 40 students studying in four departments of the Academy, coming from Germany, Mexico, Columbia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Spain, Belarus, Armenia, Japan, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Israel, Australia and Turkey.
